Player Approval Site System – Your Guide to Obtaining an Airsoft Defence

P.A.S.S. stands for Player Approval Site System.

P.A.S.S. is the independent player verification system operated by S.W.A.T. Airsoft to help eligible players establish and demonstrate their legitimate participation in airsoft skirmishing activities.

If you are an existing or new airsoft player wishing to purchase a Realistic Imitation Firearm (RIF), commonly referred to as a black airsoft replica, you will need to satisfy the relevant requirements under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 and the Realistic Imitation Firearms Regulations 2007.

These provisions came into effect in October 2007.

P.A.S.S. provides a straightforward method of documenting your airsoft participation, verifying your identity and enabling authorised retailers to confirm your approved status.

Best of all, S.W.A.T. membership and P.A.S.S. registration are completely FREE.

1. Who Can Apply for P.A.S.S.?

To obtain P.A.S.S. purchasing approval through S.W.A.T., applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

1. Age: You must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Membership: You must be a registered member of S.W.A.T. Airsoft and have been allocated a unique membership identification number.
3. Qualifying Attendance: You must attend at least three qualifying airsoft game days at recognised S.W.A.T. venues over a period of not less than 56 days.
4. Identification: You must provide satisfactory photographic identification, such as a valid driving licence or passport.
5. Proof of Address: You may also be required to provide a recent utility bill, bank statement or other acceptable document confirming your current residential address.
6. Verification: Your identity, attendance and membership records must be checked and approved by S.W.A.T. before P.A.S.S. purchasing approval is granted.

These are the requirements of the S.W.A.T. P.A.S.S. verification system. They are designed to provide reliable supporting evidence of genuine airsoft participation.

2. How the P.A.S.S. System Works

Obtaining your P.A.S.S. approval is a simple process.

Step 1 – Attend a S.W.A.T. Airsoft Venue

Book and attend one of our scheduled airsoft game days at a recognised S.W.A.T. venue.

Whether you are completely new to airsoft or an experienced player, you are welcome to participate.

Step 2 – Register for FREE Membership

Register as a S.W.A.T. member.

You will be allocated a unique membership number with the prefix SAM, representing S.W.A.T. Airsoft Merseyside.

Your membership is free, and your attendance will be recorded within our membership administration system.

Step 3 – Complete Your Qualifying Attendance

Attend a minimum of three qualifying airsoft game days over a period of not less than 56 days.

Only qualifying attendance at recognised S.W.A.T. venues will count towards P.A.S.S. approval.

Step 4 – Complete Your P.A.S.S. Application

Obtain a P.A.S.S. application form from our staff.

You may complete and submit the form during your qualifying attendance period or following your final qualifying game.

You will be required to provide the necessary identification and supporting information.

Step 5 – Identity and Membership Verification

Our administration team will review your application, confirm your identity and check your recorded attendance.

Once all requirements have been satisfied, your application can be approved.

Step 6 – P.A.S.S. Approval

Following successful verification, your membership record will be updated to include your official P.A.S.S. approval date.

This confirms that you have satisfied the requirements of our independent verification system.

Your approval can then be checked by participating airsoft retailers.

3. Purchasing Your Airsoft Replica

Once your P.A.S.S. approval has been confirmed, you may approach retailers who accept S.W.A.T. P.A.S.S. verification.

The retailer must satisfy itself that an applicable statutory defence exists before supplying a RIF.

To assist with this process, authorised retailers can access our secure P.A.S.S. verification system.

The register displays:

• Your registered name.
• Your unique SAM membership number.
• Your P.A.S.S. approval date and current status.

Our website also provides access to relevant S.W.A.T. insurance documentation.

P.A.S.S. approval is supporting evidence of your legitimate airsoft activities, not an automatic entitlement to purchase a RIF from every retailer.

Individual retailers remain responsible for their own due diligence and may have different verification requirements.

4. Additional Retailer Security Checks

Where a retailer requires further confirmation, they may contact S.W.A.T. directly.

Our administration team can carry out secondary verification by comparing information supplied by the retailer against our membership records.

This may include your name, residential address, postcode or date of birth, where reasonably necessary.

S.W.A.T. does not routinely disclose members' personal addresses, dates of birth, telephone numbers or email addresses to retailers.

Instead, we confirm whether the information provided corresponds with our records.

This helps protect our members' personal information while supporting responsible retailer verification.

5. Your Qualifying Attendance Period

New applicants must complete the P.A.S.S. qualifying attendance requirements before approval can be granted.

The standard procedure is:

1. Register as a S.W.A.T. member.
2. Attend at least three qualifying airsoft game days over not less than 56 days.
3. Ensure your attendance is recorded.
4. Provide satisfactory identification and proof of address where required.
5. Submit your completed P.A.S.S. application.
6. Await confirmation of approval from S.W.A.T.

Existing long-standing players whose attendance and identity can already be reliably established may have their previous qualifying participation considered, subject to verification.

Approval is not automatic and will only be granted once S.W.A.T. is satisfied that all relevant requirements have been met.

6. Members Under 18

Players under the age of 18 may register as S.W.A.T. members and participate in suitable airsoft activities, subject to our venue rules.

Their attendance and membership information may be recorded.

However, P.A.S.S. purchasing approval will not be granted until the member has reached 18 years of age, provided the necessary qualifying attendance, identity verification and approval requirements have been satisfied.

7. How Much Does P.A.S.S. Cost?

At S.W.A.T., we believe that player verification should be accessible without unnecessary administration charges.

Annual Membership Fees – NONE

Normal airsoft game-day charges apply.

There are no additional fees for obtaining or maintaining your P.A.S.S. approval.
